Several weeks ago the population census numbers for 2010 were
released for cities and towns in the state of Iowa. Good news was
communicated related to the community of Aplington. Our population
was 1,054 in the 2000 census but INCREASED to 1,128 in 2010. An
increase of 74 people or a 7 % increase in the past 10 years. Only two
other communities in Butler County grew in the last 10 years, those
being Allison going from 1,006 in 2000 to 1,029 in 2010 and Greene
went from 1,099 in 2000 to 1,130 in 2010. The overall population for
Butler County decreased by a little over 2% the past ten years. The
community of Aplington should be proud of bucking the trend in terms
of population decline in rural Iowa and this bodes well for our future
and having our citizens getting involved in developing new ideas on
future growth for our community.
